Home Renovation Project? Converting the Garage?
Posted by admin in renovation on January 23rd, 2010
Looking for an opinion on one subject.
My dad is converting the attached garage in his house into a den and washroom. He is framing the rooms off.
I noticed him putting up some drywall, but he feels that its not important to vapor-barrier the internal walls. He is going to insultate them.
I believe that since these internal walls aren’t really internal, garage isn’t insulated as well as the rest of the house, that these walls should have vapor barrier as well as insulation.
Could someone let me know whether is is best to include the vapour barrier, or if it is not needed?

Where to begin with home renovations?
Posted by admin in renovation on April 16th, 2009
My husband and I just purchased our first home, and it needs some work, mostly small, but a couple of big things too… We need to replace the roof, as most of the trusses were built with 2×2’s and could use to be beefed up. We’re also looking into the possibility of re-pouring the basement floor, which is concrete, but would give us the opportunity to replace some aging plumbing, etc. In addition, we need to replace most of the drywall in the home, as there’s no insulation in any of the exterior walls. Where should we begin, and what are we looking at spending on each of these projects? It’s a single story 1200 square foot house with a simple gabled roof… nothing fancy.
