Check the “homes for rent” in the local newspaper.

Look in the newspaper. Although some times it is better to go through a 3rd party. Many homeowners don’t completely understand all the laws governing renting and at times feel that they can violate the laws because it’s “their house”.

Why does it matter who you rent the house from?
Owners generally advertise in the newspaper and sometime sites like Craigslist.org
But keep in mind most smart landlords still pull credit and do verifications just like a management company does.

It raises a red flag when you call and ask…..”are you the owner of the house or a management company?”

    Good Luck

You will find that your local newspaper might be of some help in this matter.

If you are interested in a certain area of Houston you might drive that area looking for signs on the house.

Then there are the normal on-line sites like Craig’s list, My Space. You might also google rentals in Houston.

I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

I advertise in the newspaper and craigslist.

Call the ads in the newspaper, Craigslist, and alot of landlords find other free sites to advertise.

99.9% of landlords do a background check and check your credit history, if you think you are going to find the one guy that doesn’t care who he rents to, your expectations may be unrealistic.
