You should not need a real estate agent in order to rent a house. Renting a house is not much different than renting an apartment - it's still renting. All of your responsibilities and all of the landlord's responsibilities should be clearly outlined in the lease. You will have more to worry about when renting a house (eg - who mows the lawn? Can you redo the landscaping? Can you paint rooms? Who comes to fix the basement when it leaks?) but renting is renting and it is not fundamentally different than renting an apartment. Good luck!
