Risk from old customers stopping by; police breaking down the door to ask you about your activities. Old debt collectors. Bailbondsmen.
Not much.

Just search it through and through. But you may want to shy away from it if the previous tenant sold the drugs out of the house. Doing so puts you at risk of a buyer or seller showing up to collect or even a break in of someone who doesn’t know that the dealer has moved on to a prison.

If that place is your only choice, I would call the police BEFORE you move in and ask them to search it with a drug dog.

You could always have someone of the law come by the house and inspect it to ensure your safety for future problems. I would go to the police station, and tell them your situation and ask if someone would be willing to remove all paraphernalia off of the property.

Personally, I would not want to rent a house that was previously leased by a drug dealer. I would not want drug addicts knocking on my door at 3:00 a.m., looking for their next fix. If the police executed a search warrant for the premises, they should have collected all drug paraphernalia that was present. Anything else that was left behind should have been disposed of by the landlord. You should also ask the landlord what types of drugs were manufactured/sold on the property, and was any type of cleaning done after. Methamphetamine are highly flammable, and there may be residue in the walls/flooring. Similarly, if marijuana, cocaine, or heroin were manufactured/distributed, there could be trace amounts, if the house was not properly cleaned.

Nothing legally. People who used to buy drugs there come buy, people break in thinking drug dealer still lives there, police come by . My brother lived in a house that used to be a drug house (he called it the bullet hole, because it had bullet holes in it). He didn’t stay long because the house was broken into and people kept stopping by looking for the other person. My advice would be, don’t move into some place if you know it used to be a drug house.

The only thing you can do legally to ensure your safety is to not move in there!!!
I sure wouldn’t rent that place. You’re inviting a whole mess of problems. You can SAY you’re not dealing drugs all you want and inform the police you’re a new tenant - but that only goes so far.
Not only might many previous customers not realize it’s no longer a drug house, the neighbors and police will always be skittish about you, not knowing if you’re just another drug dealer.
Even worse might be people who are owed money or drugs by the previous tenants. You don’t want them doing a drive by or paying you a visit in retaliation.
Don’t move in there.
