Since you have already spent so much money this year I would make an agreement with him for Christmas.
You can say “Ok we can only get one gift for each other” but the gift has to be something super romantic or personal that the other one would never think of asking for. Then see who can think of the most romantic thing for the least amount of money.
A great way to still get a gift but spend only a little bit of money!
