What is the procedure for filing a case in small claims court for a faulty home renovation?

home renovation

I had a patio cover installed about three months ago. To make a long story short. It has leaked everytime it rains and the company has been out three times to repair it already. It took them a week to two weeks to come out and repair it in between each event. Well, it rained and it is still leaking. It leaks so bad my enclosed room gets completely flooded and it leaks on every seam. It seems to get worse each time they try to repair it. The cover is insulated and cost a little under $5000. I want it replaced with a new cover. The installation was obviously bad. In the event it cannot be fixed I plan on taking them to small claims court but am not sure what needs to be done. I am sending them a certfied letter on Tuesday explaining I will take legal action. Before this, I sent them an email (third time it leaked) and saved a copy. I have photos and video and kept a log of when I called, who I spoke to, etc. Any advice appreciated

around here the local ‘justice of the peace’ takes care of these things,, you have to contact s/he and fill out some papers and a complaint sheet that lists the problems.. s/he will then schedule a session to hear your complaints
