We are currently living in a home that is 12 years old. It was originally a model home, so it has oak trim throughout the entire home (handrails, window sills, etc…) I was told by a friend that oak trim is out of style now and that I should paint over the wood trim to give the home a more modern feel. I would like to know if painting the wood trim would help or hurt resale value.
Thanks for answering.

no body that has good taste like oak anymore…you should paint it an off white type of color…it looks a lot better with color on the walls and it goes with everything…just do it it’s your house

Do not paint the wood trim. I just bought a house and some dumb @ss painted all the trim white, we took all the molding off. And my husband is stripping the windows, and doors. I really don’t understand why people insist on painting over wood. Wood is beautiful. Leave it as it is.

Don’t worry about what is in style.Styles change all the time.Go with what YOU like.If you like the oak trim leave it as is,if you like painted trim then paint it.Just remember that if you paint it it will be a lot of work to remove the paint in a few years when everyone is in love with oak wood again.I love the look of oak but that is my opinion.
