In the US, and I think the UK too there are companies that buy it all, everything in one large payment. This is the quickest way, they resale it, not you.

I find a garage sale/car boot sale gets rid of what you don't want or cannot keep in your home to somebody who actually needs it and finds it useful.
Maybe you could go around one day putting fliers through your neighbours doors (and others) and advertise it first of all, so you know roughly how many people are going to attend.
Then you set it up in your garden or where ever you feel appropriate and wait for the customers! If not, you can always try eBay, but I find that items sell quite slowly and you may have to do a lot of things at once and set a time limit for about 2 days in order to receive your money and send away the item.
Maybe you can ask your friends or family if there is a certain item they need, so you can sell off your items to your family, too.
TIPS WHILE SELLING
1 . Maybe put good prices up if you are selling your items, so instead of a chair being overpriced at £2000, you could sell it for something like £120, depending on the type and quality. Overpriced items never attract people looking for good, good-quality items.

2 . Put your sale, (if you are doing it other than your home) in a very common place, with permission, of course. So that you can expect lots of people to come as the place is very busy and well known.

3 . Don't sell items for about £2 when they are worth more than that just to get rid of it - you want some money from it, don't you? Don't be dragged in by people offering you money that the item is not worth.

4 . ADVERTISE! Sometimes your local supermarkets can hold advertisements, as well as your local paper. Also, see if you can sell some of it in a 2nd hand shop, too, depending on quality.

Hope I helped ;)
