"Buiilding credit can be done in many ways. If you are disappointed at your loan application being turned down, it is mainly because of absence of credit history. You should learn how to do build your credit.

Do not buy unnecessary items. If you are looking to build credit start spending properly.

If you see any errors in your bills or credit, reports, contact the concerned persons immediately.

If you have purchased an item using your your credit card that later turned out to be defective or gave poor service, then you need not pay the charges. But you have to dispute the charges with the parties that were responsible for the act. If they do not replace the item or compensate you for a service or product, you are justified in refusing the payment."

You didn't mention if these family friends need the cash now or what, but how about you set up a rent to own agreement through them? I'm sure a lawyer can hammer out an agreement for the two parties involved and maybe both sides could half the costs of the attorney? If not, there is a lot to slog through in order to get credit. It won't happen in a year, much less one month.
First, your husband's past child support will appear on his credit report. Ten grand is a lot of money to repay. He should petition the court and set up an arrears repayment schedule. During his petition before the court official, he should ask that the child support to not appear on his credit on a given date in the future, if he keeps up his repayment schedule. The court will definitely come down though, if he fails on this.
Your auto loan shouldn't hurt you currently. However, a refinance may negatively affect your credit, as you are effectively requesting an extension on a five year car loan. If you can't afford the payments, sell it and pay cash for a good used car. The interest on a refi is going to hurt your wallet.
Next, pay off your creditors. Contact them, in writing once again, and try and settle for less than you owe. More favorably, to both parties, is to set up a payment schedule and after repayment is in full, the creditor will agree to delete the debt from your credit report. Everything will need to be sent registered mail. Also, have an affidavit of mailing notarized. Most banks have a free notary, and should be able to advise you on what forms are legal for this purpose in your state.
There is no quick and easy magic pill to your problems, and it will probably be several years before you will be able to get everything worked out favorably.

You can't do much in that amount of time. The best thing you can do is contact the people you owe money to and make payment arrangements, and keep them. Some places will take as little as $5-10 per month, as long as there is some money coming in. If you call them, they'll note their company's system and can change their notes on your credit report from "poor" to "in good standing". It may take more than one month to get them to do this, but it's worth a shot. At any rate, if you keep it up it will improve your credit so that if you find another place you like, you'll have a better chance of getting a loan. With bad credit, you probably won't be able to get a credit card. They're similar to a loan, and won't give you money if they don't think you'll pay them back.

Call a mortgage specialist company and ask them to work their magic - sometimes they can get loans for you that a bank can't.

Keep in mind that a house is expensive to maintain, mortgage payments plus yearly taxes and homeowner's insurance (which will be required by whoever gives you the loan) add up quickly.

(I know this is a weird offer, but If you want help setting up a budget or anything I'm pretty good with money. Drop me an email if you'd like.)

Best of luck to you!
